Over the next two years, the government plans to increase hydropower production in Georgia, starting with the construction of a number of small- and medium-sized hydroelectric power stations from March.
Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze said recently that approximately EUR 1 billion will be invested in the project over two and a half years. He added that within four to five years Georgia will be exporting electricity.
The prime minister calculated the country could take in EUR 1.2 billion in yearly revenue from exporting electricity after building the hydroelectric power stations.
