The winners of the annual Small and Medium Enterprises Competition were announced this week at a ceremony attended by President Mikheil Saakashvili and Economic Development Minister Eka Sharashidze.
A board of well-known businessmen, and NGO and media representatives picked four winners from some 500 businesses, and awarded a further 13 with certificates.
“Developing small and medium businesses is one of the major factors in developing Georgia’s economy, but the most important mission of SMEs [small and medium enterprises] is job creation and the employment of people living in the regions,” Sharashidze said at the awards ceremony, according to Georgian newspaper The FINANCIAL.
The awards, organized by the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, were held for the first time in 2004.
