Natural gas transit through the Baku–Tbilisi–Erzerum pipeline is increasing every month, the newspaper 24 Saati reports.
The pipeline transported a total of 1.9 billion cubic meters between July 2007 and February 2008—its monthly output increasing from 70 million cubic meters in July to 340 million in February, the newspaper says.
After additional construction work on the pipeline, its annual capacity is scheduled to reach 16 billion cubic meters, according to British energy company BP.
In line with the transit agreement, Georgia is entitled to five percent of the transited gas free of charge, and can buy a further 500 million cubic meters each year at a discount.
