“Tamar Kintsurashvili appointed as president’s adviser”
Akhali Taoba reports that the president appointed former director of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) Tamar Kintsurashvili, whose resignation the political opposition demanded after charges of bias in news coverage, as his adviser for ethnic minorities issues:
“On the new post, one of my key aims will be to establish tolerance of ethnic minorities and coordinate with state structures regarding the issue,” she said.
Kintsurashvili left her post as GPB head two months ago.
“The NGO Equality Institute plans to organize a TV festival”
Rezonansi reports that the pro-opposition NGO Equality Institute plans to organize a politically-themed film festival:
“This festival will start soon. The best documentary films and journalistic investigations will be presented,” NGO member Lasha Chkhartishvili said.
The TV festival will have a professional jury which will include human rights protectors, journalists, etc.
“There will be nominations, including for the best documentary film and the best journalistic debut,” Chkhartishvili stated, adding that the winners will receive prizes.
“Presentation of new youth newspaper held at Tbilisi State University”
Rezonansi reports that a new student newspaper was unveiled on April 18 at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU):
The paper, called TSU Times, was created by joint efforts of students from the law, social and political sciences departments.
According to Achiko Kaikatsishvili, who thought of creating the paper, the newspaper will be absolutely neutral, and every interested person will be able to express his or her opinion regarding what’s going on in the country.
The 24-page newspaper will cover all important topics and students will be actively involved in creating a good and informative product.
The official partner for TSU Times is the company Wissol Petroleum. The cost of the paper will be 70 tetri and it will be distributed in various organizations.
“Ugulava and Kvezereli visited the Ioli Group”
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava and acting minister of agriculture and food Bakur Kvezerli visited the newly re-equipped ice-cream plant and newly-opened meat factory of the company Ioli Group on April 19:
“Opening of similar enterprises is very important for the country’s economic development,” Ugulava said.
Approximately USD 5 million was invested into the business, and 200 persons are employed there.
The company is owned by Vladimer Kvaratskhelia, the ruling party majoritarian MP candidate for Tbilisi’s Didube district.
