Iran is interested in transiting Caspian oil to the Persian Gulf, a representative of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) said on April 24 at a conference in Baku.
“Countries in the [Caspian] region should not dismiss Iran as an attractive route to the international market and as a trustworthy partner,” said Aminollah Eskandari a managing director at the firm.
He added that Iran is planning to increase the capacity of the Neka seaport on Iran’s Caspian coast.
“Channel dredging will allow [the port] to receive tankers at deadweight of 14 000 tons to 63 000 tons, compared to the current 5000–7000 tons [limit],” said Eskandari.
Iran will also construct a 1560-kilometer pipeline between Neka and Jask with the capacity to transit one million barrels of oil per day to the Gulf of Oman, the representative said.
Iran also has plans to build seven more oil refineries that will process 1.59 million barrels of oil per day, according to the NIORDC official.
