“Natural disaster damaged Lagodekhi”
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that strong winds damaged houses in Lagodekhi district:
Strong winds took the roofs off houses in the villages of Kabali and Chaduniani.
A commission has been set up to study the damage.
Lagodekhi district chief Gia Gozalishvili said the local authorities would fund repairs and that this would be done as soon as possible.
“Rustavi has a new council head”
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that Rustavi, an industrial town just outside Tbilisi, has elected a new local council head:
After voting, Kakha Gurgenidze has been appointed as the head of Rustavi sakrebulo.
The place became vacant after former head, Mamuka Chikovani, was appointed as Rustavi mayor.
Twelve council members voted and all chose Gurgenidze.
Mamuka Chikovani has congratulated Gurgenidze on his appointment.
“Nino Kalandadze to be deputy foreign minister”
Ruling party member Nino Kalandadze, a former MP who did not seek reelection in last month’s parliamentary vote, will be appointed deputy foreign minister according to Akhali Taoba:
Rumors that Kalandadze would enter the foreign ministry have circulated for a long time, but most thought she would become an ambassador.
Kalandadze entered parliament in 2004, and is a former deputy in the committee for legal issues.
She is an ally of prominent ruling party member Giga Bokeria who recently also became a deputy foreign minister.
“France supports Georgia’s and Ukraine’s membership in NATO”
Sakartvelos Respublika reports on French President Nikolas Sarkozy’s recent statement of support for Georgia and Ukraine’s membership bids:
“As for NATO, France is ready to support Ukraine and Georgia to enter in the alliance,” Sarkozy said on a visit to Warsaw to meet Polish officials.
According to him they should pay attention to the region, especially Abkhazia where Russian is active.
