“Tsagareishvili may leave politics”
United Opposition member Gia Tsagareishvili will not take his seat in parliament and does not rule out leaving politics altogether, Kviris Palitra writes:
Tsagareishvili regrets that in the 21st century [President Mikheil] Saakashvili can make a one-party parliament and says this is why he refuses to take up his parliamentary seat.
He says that he does not see the point of setting up an alternative parliament and refuses to be part of it.
He also says an alternative parliament would not function, particularly because the United Opposition does not exist any more because Davit Gamkrelidze makes all decisions without conferring with other coalition members.
“No opposition members destroyed MPs mandates”
In an interview with Kviris Palitra, ruling party MP Eka Kherkheulidze said the dramatic scene outside parliament on June 7 when opposition MPs destroyed their lawmakers’ ID cards was a deception:
“This is one more opposition attempt to lie to the people. None of them tore their MPs mandates; they cut cards that have no legal power; those ID cards were only for entering parliament. The MPs’ mandates will be given later and I assure you that they will use them when necessary,” Kherkheulidze said.
“Seminar for regional media”
Akhali Taoba reports that the Training Center of Justice and the Legal Aid Service of the Ministry of Justice organized a workshop for journalists from the regions on June 7–8 in Bakuriani:
The two-day seminar addresses the issue: “Provision of the Right of Defense in Georgia.”
Journalists were informed about the right of defence in Georgia and given in-depth information about the work of the Legal Aid Service.
Journalists of print and e-media from Kakheti, Kvemo-Kartli, Imereti, Samegrelo and Adjara attended the session.
“National Movement may make a new faction in Parliament”
24 Saati reports that National Movement may make a new faction called the Majoritarebi in parliament:
Ruling party members have not said who would head the faction but Lasha Zhvania, majoritarian MP from Chugureti and Rusudan Kervalishvili, majoritarian MP from Samgori, are tipped for the role.
However Kervalishvili and Zhvania have not confirmed this.
“I think it is necessary to have this majoritarian faction in parliament, but I can’t say for sure who will head it,” Zhvania said.
