Georgia has a significant water pollution problem, according to the environmental NGO Green Alternative.
A lack of waste water decontamination facilities—or their inefficient operation—at industrial units is a major cause of the problem, the NGO says, and puts around one third of the pollution down to waste from power plants.
It also said that Poti, a port city on the Black Sea coast, has one of the biggest water pollution problems in Georgia, Rezonansi reports.
Tbilisi Water Company says that drinking water in the capital meets all World Health Organization standards and is safe for consumption.
