“New faction—majoritarians”
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that a new faction is being formed in parliament:
“A new faction called Georgia’s Regions-Majoritarians is being set up in parliament. The MPs involved made the decision to set up the faction on June 17.
Majoritarian MPs from different regions are in the faction: Gogi Liparteliani, Merab Samadashvili, Gocha Enukidze, Giorgi Chelidze, Giorgi Ghviniashvili, Goderdzi Bukia, Giorgi Tatishvili and so on.
The head of new faction will be Gogi Liparteliani. It will be separate from the ruling majority.”
“Baghaturia made first statement in parliament”
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that oppositional Kartuli Dasi leader Jondi Baghaturia made his first statement in the new parliament:
“The MP expressed regret at the United Opposition’s move to renounce their MP status. He said that despite consultations, it was impossible to stop the opposition members from doing this.
‘I want this confrontation to end,’ Baghaturia said.
He added that one way this could happen would be for the government to investigate all the alleged violations during the two elections this year, as well as the events of November 7 last year.”
“Businessman was killed in Chuburkhinji”
Akhali Taoba reports that a businessman was killed in the Abkhazian conflict zone:
“In the conflict zone armed criminals killed 35-year-old businessman Zurab Zhvania, in Chuburkhinji.
According to one account Zhvania was killed because of financial interests. He had two shops in Gali and the criminals were trying to steal money.
The criminals demanded USD 13 000, and killed Zhvania near his house.”
“TV program 'Shvidi Dghe' shut down unexpectedly”
Rezonansi reports that a current affairs program on the state-funded public broadcaster has been taken off-air:
“Newly-founded television program ‘Shvidi Dghe’ [Seven Days] will not be on air from this week onwards.
According to one of the founders of the show, the partner company GLTV cancelled its contract unexpectedly.
‘Unfortunately the TV program has shut down—the official reason is that our partner refused to continue the contract with us and they stopped it with the GPB [public broadcaster],’ ‘Shvidi Dghe founder’ Rusudan Tskhomelidze said.”
