Yesterday Turkmen media reported that Ashgabat is ready to begin constructing a new natural gas pipeline to Russia.
The pipeline, scheduled to go online in 2010, will transit 10 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas and the same amount of Kazakhstani gas to Russia annually. It is sponsored by Moscow.
Turkmenistan and Russia are negotiating the exact price Russia will pay for Turkmen gas from next year onwards.
“The price will be within the range of USD 358–408 [per 1000 cubic meters] instead of the current USD 179,” said Gazprom representative Alexei Miller said in an interview with Russian newspaper Kommersant.
