“Israeli-Georgian weapons deals rumors to be verified"
Sakartvelos Respublika writes that it is waiting for Tbilisi to comment on Russian and Israeli media reports that Israel is ceasing weapon sales to Georgia on Moscow’s request:
“Georgian official structures will make their comment about Russian media releasing information saying that the Foreign Ministry of Israel vetoed the exportation of weapons in Georgia.
Russian news agencies released this information based on the Israeli newspaper Maariv.
According to the paper, Israel made this decision after an official address from the Russian government that was sent after shooting down [a Georgian surveillance drone plane] in Abkhazia.
An official letter from Russia requested Israel to stop supplying Georgia with weapons.
According to the paper, weapon exports from Israel to Georgia have been going on discreetly to avoid Russian hostility. After Saakashvili’s election, Israel became one of the main weapons providers of Georgia together with Ukraine.”
“Bush and Putin to discuss Georgia’s current situation”
Akhali Taoba reports that Georgia could be on the agenda at a brief meeting between Russian and American leaders in Beijing:
“During their meeting in Beijing, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and US President George Bush plan to discuss the current situation in Georgia, Russian news agency Ria Novosti reported.
‘Their meeting is planned to be held on August 8 prior to the official Chinese government event. Their conversation will not exceed a few minutes,’ Russian source reports.
Putin and Bush will then leave Beijing to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.”
“Grigol Vashadze to leave for Moscow in coming days”
24 Saati reports that Deputy Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze is on his way to Moscow for talks:
“Deputy Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze will go to Moscow on a working visit.
‘Grigol Vashadze will go to Moscow at the end of this week and hold meetings with the Russian Foreign Ministry’s officials,’ Georgian Foreign Ministry reports.
According to them, the theme of the meeting will be the tense Georgian-Russian relationship and finding some resolutions to the conflict. Other details of the meeting have not been released yet.”
