Total foreign direct investments in 2007 were USD 2.015 billion, the state statistics department said on August 13 in revised figures up from the previous estimate of USD 1.563 billion.
One in five foreign dollars last year went into the transport and communications sector, followed closely by the industry and energy sectors, accounting for 19.8 percent and 18 percent of foreign direct investment respectively.
The cumulative stock of net FDI throughout 1996–2007 stood at 54 percent of last year’s GDP, according to the Georgian government’s investor relations department, which said that these figures secure Georgia’s position as a leading country by net FDI as percentage of GDP.
