The United States is financing the research being undertaken concerning the construction of a new nuclear power station in Armenia. This project envisages a gradual shutting down of the existing power station and its replacement by a new one.
Since 1996 the US has allotted up to USD 55 million to ensure the security of the existing nuclear plant. It is expected that building a new plant will cost up to USD 6.2 billion.
