Azerbaijan will not increase gas tariff for Georgia
Monday, October 27
President Saakashvili’s visit to Azerbaijan to attend Ilham Aliyev’s inauguration was very important in resolving a vital issue for Georgia.
Under the terms of an agreement between the Presidents, Georgia will receive natural gas from Azerbaijan without delay under the old tariff terms.
As Georgian Minister for Energy Aleko Khetaguri informed journalists, Saakashvili and Aliyev agreed a long term supply deal under which Georgia will continue to receive natural gas from Azerbaijan without being charged any more than it is at present. Currently Georgia receives 1,000 cubic metres of gas from Azerbaijan for USD 170.
The inauguration of Ilham Aliyev was held on October 24. The leader of Azerbaijan received 88.7% of the votes cast in the recent Presidential election.
