New party with old faces
Representatives of the Parliamentary minority Gia Tortladze and Gia Tsagareishvili have founded a new political party called Georgia’s Democratic Party, 24 saati reports.
They have announced that their party will be for representatives from the science, culture and sport spheres. Tortladze noted that the party will establish a headquarters managed by Shota Nadirashvili. The founders of the new party plan to hold its first session in the near future.
To begin with the party will be funded by donations but in future it hopes to receive financing. Tortladze said that the principle of the party is to work as a team and share ideas and opinions.
Way of Ilia to be led by Shevardnadze?
A political union called The Way of Ilia was founded on November 4, 24 saati writes. The union comprises 17 different organisations. According to its founder Avtandil Margiani, its the main goal is to restore close relations with Russia, Abkhazia and Samachablo.
“This is a union of former MPs, former Government officials and members of society whose intention is to solve the country’s problems from inside the country,” Margiani said. He also stated that it had offered Eduard Shevardnadze a post in the organisation, and that he had received the offer very well but made no final decision yet.
Minister of Education gives computers to Tirdznisi Public School
Minister of Education and Science Gia Nodia has donated computes to Tirdznisi Public School, which has been rehabilitated after the August war, Akhali Taoba reports. The Minister brought 10 new computers to Tirdznisi, in Gori district, on Thursday and promised children he would solve the problem of internet provision. He also held a meeting with about 250 teachers from the Gori distinct.
In addition to the grant of computers, a joint action by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and Solidarity for Georgia has been implemented which will result in the pupils of Zemo Nikozi and Khvtisi villages, which suffered during the August war, being provided with text books.
The Tirdznisi public school was built in 2007 as part of the Presidential national mega-programme “Iakob Gogebashvili – Rehabilitation of Public Schools”. The school was damaged in the August events, but the Ministry of Education has rehabilitated it.
