Armenia to revive former tourist centre
Thursday, November 13
The Armenian Government is planning to develop the town of Jermuk as a winter tourism centre. This 10 year development plan is envisaged to be undertaken as part of the programme “compatible Armenia,” prepared in collaboration with USAID.
This project envisages that the number of tourists to Jermuk will increase from 10,000 a year today to just under 100,000 annually. It will also increase the medical potential of the resort famous for its climate.
This project was mentioned by Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian during his recent visit to the town, when he spoke of the revival of a town which had hosted 20,000 tourists annually in Soviet times.
