Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdukov has stated that when the reform of the Russian Army is complete it should be equipped for simultaneous involvement in three regional conflicts and one local one. According to previous Russian military doctrine, the Army needed to be ready to participate simultaneously in one regional conflict and one war.
Under the new doctrine the Russian Army should be more efficient. Russian experts have identified the location of threats, the most likely being the Caucasus region and Central Asia, the third greatest threat is either somewhere in the Far East, Korea or Ukraine/Crimea.
