US Senator Richard Lugar expresses concern that the US is losing its position in Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus. He highlights that Russia is strengthening its position in the energy sphere while the US is losing its position in the field.
Senator Lugar’s concern is a clear message to the new administration to make its policy in the regions more straightforward, clear and active to prevent Russia obtaining the dominant position here. Georgian political analysts consider it is very timely to try and improve the US position in the region, as the Senator’s statement seeks to do.
