Estonia will help Gori citizens
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that the Government of Estonia has taken the initiative to undertake social projects in Gori. A delegation from Estonia has visited Gori, where it met NGOs and Social Service chiefs. A round table discussion was held about the situation in the region.
International organizations are about to launch new grant programmes for fulfilling new projects. This year it is planned to build 50 km of motorway and rehabilitate three bridges in Shida Kartli, at a cost of GEL 204,506,000. 25 km of new road and another four new bridges will also be built in the region.
Parliamentary minority prepares to meet Alasania
Rezonansi reports that former Ambassador of Georgia to the UN Irakli Alasania wants to meet the Parliamentary minority. It is known that Alasania decided to do this after his first meeting with members of the Parliamentary opposition.
This report has been neither denied nor confirmed by the opposition. The date of the reported meeting has not been announced.
Murderers still unpunished
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that society still remembers the murder of Sandro Girgvliani, although three years have passed since it happened. The opposition and population took a great interest in the case, and this interest, and the allegations emerging about the murder, became the basis of serious political processes in the country.
A meeting organized by the November 7 movement attracted members of different opposition parties, especially their youth branches. Its slogan was “No! - to violence”.The meeting began in Heroes’ Square and continued outside the Parliament building.
The fact that the meeting was going to be emotively and politically quite loaded was already clear from the press conference concerning it arranged at the office of the Women’s Party. The leader of the party’s youth branch, Tamar Khijakadze, said: “The murderers of Sandro Girgvliani, Buta Robakidze and Zura Vazagashvili are protected by senior politicians and are still unpunished. We, especially the young generation, don’t have any right to restrain our protest about this. We all want to live in a country free of violence.”
Soso Tsintsadze: Burjanadze’s party has started preparing for the elections
Rezonansi reports that according to political analyst Soso Tsintsadze, Nino Burjanadze has already started preparations for the elections. “The only party which is operating in the classically understood way and preparing for the elections is Burjanadze’s party. The others haven’t launched their campaigns or slogans yet.”
Tsintsadze thinks that those in the non-Parliamentary opposition who wish to become President all have a theoretical chance, starting with Shalva Natelashvili, the Labour leader. But he reckons that none of them has a realistic opportunity as yet.
