Minister of Economic Development Lasha Zhvania has stated that despite the global crisis the Georgian Government expects that USD 1.7 billion in investments will enter Georgia in 2009. However he does not specify from which countries or sources this inflow will appear.
The Minister also stated that in 2008 Georgia received around USD 2 billion in investments. Independent analysts however are rather skeptical of his optimism. Ioseb Archuadze, an economic analyst, states that this declaration is groundless. In 2008, when the USD 2 billion was invested, the situation was absolutely different to today. The economic situation around the world has radically changed and has become very complicated.
