During the visit of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov to Iran the most important topic of his negotiations was the realization of the North-South transport corridor.
Two years ago, in October 2007, a joint declaration on the construction of a railway track connecting Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran was signed. Iran would construct additional railway lines on its territory for this purpose and Russia would help Turkmenistan build its segment of track. Russia will therefore be very actively involved in the implementation of this project, which envisages connecting CIS countries to the Persian Gulf.
