Georgian schools will be turned into Russian ones

Sakartvelos Respublika reports that Parliament has discussed the separatists’ banning of Georgian schools in Abkhazia.

As the head of the Human Rights Committee, Gia Arsenishvili, said at the meeting, out of 58 Georgian schools in Gali before the war only 31 are now functioning, and they will be turned into Russian schools soon. He said that this is a further act of creeping and secret annexation and is bad for Abkhazia and the Abkhazian people.

Arsenishvili hopes that Abkhazians will soon discover how negative the consequences of this action will be and take appropriate decisions.

Malashkhia warns against Russia again

Sakartvelos Respublika reports that the head of the Temporary Parliamentary Commission on the Restoration of Territorial Unity, Shota Malashkhia, says that the days of Russian imperialism are over. He said this at the plenary session of Parliament which opened with statements concerning the day Georgia was forced into the Soviet Union.

Malashkhia said Russia has seen that it has lost the war with Georgia in the eyes of the international community, though for Georgia the war still goes on and will lead to a final point. He also said that Russia is now sure that the only thing it can do is provoke revolution and disturbance in the country and install a Government which will acknowledge the independence of the breakaway territories.

MP attacks intelligentsia

Rezonansi reports that Parliamentary majority member Akaki Bobokhidze has accused some representatives of the intelligentsia of having “aspirations towards Russia.” His accusation was addressed to a particular individual, who was not named.

“I was alerted by the statement of one of the intelligentsia members that Russia had not occupied Georgia either in 1921 nor now and that the occupation had been carried out by Saakashvili. He tried to make out that what happened in Tskhinvali and Abkhazia last August was only a Russian response to Georgian provocation,” said Akaki Bobokhidze.

The Alasania - New Rights – Republicans alliance was too hasty - Tsiskarishvili

Akhali Taoba reports that political analyst Soso Tsiskarishvili has commented negatively on recent opposition statements.

The analyst said: “Two groups of opposition parties have chosen two different tactics for reaching one and the same goal. The term “my quota” mustn’t prevail over the interests of the country.

“I think the alliance led by Alasania could have been larger than it is now. This alliance was made in a hurry as Alasania didn’t try to search for a serious political structure to work with or people who might become plenipotentiary members of it. Now it only represents a union of two parties. They needed ‘new blood,’ not to make a marriage of convenience based solely on the prevailing political conditions. The Republicans and New Rights have been preparing for such a union for a long time,” said Tsiskarishvili.
