Negative trade balance burdens the country

The negative trade balance is becoming a heavy burden for the Georgian economy. In 2008 Georgia exported goods worth USD 1.498 billion but imported USD 6.058 billion. Thus import is four times more than export. Unfortunately this tendency is characteristic of the country’s economy generally.
Georgia’s external loans have also increased, and although the figure remains less then 30% of GDP the tendency of debt growth is not a positive one.
