According to May 1 data only 19,000 cheap insurance programme policies have been sold countrywide. The programme was launched on March 2 with ten insurance companies participating in it. State officials were seeking to attract 500,000 beneficiaries by June 1.
So far only 4% of the available policies have been sold. Under this programme the policy holder pays a premium of GEL 19.8 whereas state budget pays an extra GEL 40.2. People under 60 could participate in the programme.
The insurance companies are able to provide extra services if the policy holders add more money of their own. The basic insurance package covers ambulatory treatment, emergency operations and traumas, accidents and primary healthcare procedures in clinics.
