Special archive of August war to be created
The Georgian Ministry of Justice is creating a special archive about the Russian-Georgian war in August 2008. The National Archives of Georgia has already started to gather photo, video and audio materials. Hundreds of exhibits proving the Russian aggression have already been collected.
The Ministry of Justice is asking all the media companies to hand over any kind of information they hold on the war. The National Archives is promising to protect copyrights. (Rustavi 2)
Tkeshelashvili responds to statement of Russian officials
Ekaterine Tkeshelashvili, Secretary of the National Security Council, has responded to Russian officials’ statements about the rearmament of Georgia. She has said that they are part of Russian propaganda which aims to present Georgia as a small but armed aggressor.
“This is a ridiculous statement in the eyes of the international community” said Tkeshelashvili.
She added that any reform in the sphere of defence aims to help Georgia approach NATO standards and these reforms involve not only armaments but the improvement of the military environment. (Interpressnews)
U.S. Embassy sponsors the SPORTS UNITED - SPORTS ENVOY PROGRAMME in Georgia
The U.S. Embassy in Georgia together with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State are proud to announce the launch of the SPORTS UNITED - SPORTS ENVOY programme in Georgia.
Former NBA player Vladimir Stepania and former Women’s NBA player Barbara Turner are travelling in Georgia as ‘Sports Ambassadors’ between 2-8 of August. During this trip, they are conducting basketball clinics in Gori, Batumi, Kutaisi and Tbilisi. They are also visiting sports schools and speaking to young people, including IDPs, about the importance of sport education and healthy lifestyles.
The goal of this programme is to bring people together through sports while encouraging the development of basketball on a grassroots level. (The Messenger)
New Georgian Ambassadors to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan?
Georgia may have new Ambassadors to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan from this Autumn.
Georgia currently has one diplomatic mission covering both countries and Zurab Kozmava is working there as a temporary attorney.
The last Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kyrgyzstan was Zurab Shurghaia.
Who the new Ambassadors might be has not been made public yet. (Interpressnews)
Georgian and Armenian children on holiday in Dmanisi
65 Georgian and Armenian teenagers are currently on holiday in the former Chatakhi Pioneer Camp under the auspices of the Patriarch’s fund Lazare and a Swiss charity organisation. Sports, games, scientific conversations about the environment, camping, film shows and other undertakings are planned within the framework of the holiday. They will be there until August 14.
33 Georgian children are also on holiday in Armenia. This is the third time this programme has been held. (Interpressnews)
