The publishing business was developing dynamically until recently. In June 2009 up to 70 publishing houses presented new titles, a very promising figure for a country as small as Georgia. However publishers and bookshop owners are saying that the economic crisis has touched them as well. Book sales have decreased by 10-15%. Unfortunately a book is not a product of primary usage so people prefer to buy food instead of books.
Publishers and bookshops have started giving different discounts to attract potential clients. Many publishing houses have started issuing manuals and schoolbooks only.
