Eduard Kokoity given “Peace Order”
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that the leader of brakeaway South Ossetia has been awarded a ‘peace order’ by the Russian Writer’s Union after inviting its representatives to the de facto region.
Valeri Ganichev, the Chairman of the Union, stated “we have established a movement called “International People of Goodwill” which consists of persons whose main goals are preserving world peace and showing goodwill. Eduard Kokoity is very much worthy of bearing this honour.”
Why subsidise Russia through Odnoklassniki?
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that analyst Irakli Sesiashvili has commented on Georgian companies placing advertisements on Russian website Odnoklassniki. “It is really regrettable that our companies are helping increase Russia’s income while Georgian TV companies are in serious financial crisis and left, in fact, without advertisements. This action should be protested against not only by native companies but by Georgian users of the Russian website as well,” Sesiashvili stated.
However Airzena, a Georgian airline, is happy with the results it has achieved after placing an ad on the website and doesn’t intend to remove it. Nino Giorgobiani, head of the airlines’ press service, has already responded to Sesiashvili’s call to protest by saying, “if someone talks about protesting about this the website and then mentions only Georgian companies this is not right. The outlook of our internet customers, who use Odnoklassniki’s paid services, would radically alter in this case.”
Parliament has no problem with subtitles
Sakartvelos Respublika reports that the Minister of Culture Nika Rurua has stated that the withdrawal from Parliament of the bill concerning subtitling films is temporary and has been prompted by technical inaccuracies in the text.
“The National Communications Commission was instructed in the bill to ensure that films were shown at Georgian cinemas with English subtitles but it would not have been able to fulfill this responsibility within the short period of time the bill envisaged. No one has withdrawn the bill from the Parliament; its progress has been temporally suspended, as improvements in the text are needed,” Rurua said, adding that this is a very timely and interesting initiative.
The Ministry of Culture is planning to start subtitling films within six months.
