Arabs buy Georgian sheep

All of a sudden Georgia has started exporting its sheep. The buyers are mostly from Arab countries. In September 2009 around 40,000 sheep were taken from Georgia, which received around GEL 4 million for them.

The sheep are being bought so quickly that some sheep owners can hardly keep enough on site to breed more. However the farmers are very optimistic and are investing in this direction. The wool and meat of Georgian sheep are known to be of good quality but have so far been appreciated by locals only.

The UAE and its companies have been active in Georgia since 2005, investing so far in development projects and buying land and real estate. It looks as if its companies have started diversifying their investments.
