The Asian Development Bank has issued a grant of USD 1 million for the production of a feasibility study into Iran-Armenia railway construction. Gurgen Sarkisian, the Armenian Minister for Transport and Communications, said this in Yerevan on December 21. Iran has taken on a commitment to financially support this project.
The Asian Development Bank is considering issuing further loans to this project. The Armenian Government has created a company which will be involved in organising the project.
In Tehran last April Iran and Armenia signed an agreement on the construction of railways. This construction will cost approximately USD 1.5 billion and take 5-6 years. The feasibility study for this should be ready in three months.
