The relations between Turkey and Russia are strategic partnership relations, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated on January 13 at a meeting with Turkish PM Recep Erdogan.
Russian –Turkish economic relations develop at a high speed. Russian PM Vladimir Putin has stated that in 2008 trade turnover between the two countries was USD 35 billion. In 2009 it decreased due to the economic crisis but despite this Turkey remains one of Russia's biggest economic partners, ahead of the USA and Great Britain.
It has become known that Russia will get more actively involved in the construction of the Samsun-Ceyhan oil pipeline. Currently the sides are considering different ways of cooperating in this field.
