Iran wants the Karabakh conflict to be resolved peacefully and Tehran is ready to assist Armenia and Azerbaijan in doing this, Iranian Foreign Minister Manucher Mottaki said during his visit to Yerevan on January 27. He stated that Iran wants peace and stability in the region and that everyone should remember what happened in Georgia in 2008. Such things should not be repeated as they negatively influence the overall situation in the region, including its security, transport and energy infrastructure.
Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mahmadyarov invited Iran to mediate in this conflict some time ago. This offer was accepted by Iran. Some experts however think that Baku is gambling, wanting Ankara to see that it is not the only player on the ground.
