According to official statistics Georgia's foreign trade turnover increased in January 2010 for the first time in quite a long period. Compared to the same period of 2009 it increased by 4.5%, and what is more encouraging exports increased by 72% while imports decreased by 9%.
These are encouraging figures. We do not know yet whether the increase is an isolated gain or the start of a new positive tendency but it has happened.
In January 2010 the main export item was ferro alloys, the second cars, which are re-exported from Europe to Armenia, Azerbaijan and sometimes Central Asia, and the third raw and semi-processed gold.
