Kazakhstan to increase oil transit by railway through Georgia

In 2009 Georgian Railways transported 1.5 million tonnes more of Kazakh oil than in the previous year. Kazakhstan exports 5 million tonnes of oil annually through Georgia, half by rail and half though the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

It has become known that railway transport is more convenient for Kazakhstan as the tariffs are very reasonable, though the exact figures are not known. Georgian analysts think that Kazakhstan will continue using both means of transportation.
