Poverty is the most acute problem in Georgia

Georgia is in 89th place in the list of the world's poorest countries and is worse off than Armenia and Azerbaijan. Its people are in a dire situation as 40% of them live below the poverty line.
In December 2008 the people listed in the poorest conditions were 1.636 million Georgians were in this position, now this figure has increased to 1.761 million. More than 540,000 families live below the poverty line.
