From 2012 a big commercial port at Supsa with six landing stages will start functioning. This is about to be constructed by the Black Sea Product company.
The port will cover 180 hectares and serve container, combined and oil and motor vehicle transport. Its advantage will lie in its ability to receive big vessels including huge tankers. It will be a very complicated and sophisticated engineering construction.
The Georgian Black Sea ports of Batumi, Poti and Kulevi have already been privatised and sold off. USD 300 million is due to be spent on the construction of Supsa port over the coming five years. Arab and Azeri companies are active in Poti and Kulevi, Kazakhs in Batumi
