Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri evaluates Georgia’s economic performance in the first half of 2010 optimistically. GDP grew in the first quarter by 4.5% and in the second by 7%. Exports have also increased compared with 2009 same period.
Georgia is exporting more electricity as well as more agricultural products. In the first half of 2010 Georgian banks issued more loans increasing the amount of issued credits.
Independent analysts however are less optimistic, mentioning the worsening fiscal situation and different segments of industry, in particular construction. Analysts expect some economic problems to arise in the autumn.
