Today around ten million tonnes of oil per annum is transported via the Azerbaijan-Georgia transit corridor. The participants have decided to increase the volume to up to 20 million tonnes a year. To enable this, the fleet of tankers will be enlarged and special works will be carried out at the terminals. Azerbaijan is ready to invest up to USD 1 billion to increase the capacity of the railways and terminals. SOCAR president Rovnag Abdulaev commented that Azerbaijan is working actively to increase the transportation of Kazakhstani oil thorough this route and stated that a feasibility study for a Trans-Caspian system is currently being worked on.
