Sugar might become more expensive

It is predicted that the growing prices on raw sugar material which eventually result in an increase on the price on sugar itself. On August 17, this year, one sack of sugar (50 kilos) was worth around 75 GEL. In the space of a month, the price has gone up to over GEL 82. Analysts think that the production of sugar starting from October will increase. Annually Georgia consumes around 120 000 tonnes of sugar. The Agara sugar plant satisfies almost 80% of local production but Georgia also imports its sugar from Brazil, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Thailand and India.
