Deputy energy minister of Armenia, Ara Simonian stated on October 23 that construction of the Iran – Armenia oil pipeline will be finished in 2 years. 110 km of the pipeline will be laid on Iranian territory, while 265 km will be in Armenia. The 8 inch wide pipe should satisfy Armenia’s demand for oil through until 2037. The next stage of cooperation foresees building an oil refinery in Armenia. There have already been negotiations on this issue between the Armenian energy ministry, Iranian oil ministry and Russia’s GazProm; however so far there has been no definite decision on the issue.
