Akhalgori residents can enter Russia on an ‘Ossetian’ passport
The population of Akhalgori, a Georgian region currently under Russian control, will be given Russian passports from January, Rezonansi writes.
They say the distribution of passports should be complete by August 2011. According to Soslan Jigkaev, head of the Tskhinvali passport department, each resident of the region will be obliged to take the passport.
The Akhalgori population will have to refuse Georgian citizenship in order to take the new so-called South Ossetian passports.
The de facto leaders say that taking Ossetian passports is voluntary an there is no pressure on the local population. Those who do not accept it will be considered foreign citizens.
Analyst Mamuka Areshidze says that the aim of distributing so called Ossetian passports is because the so called South Ossetian leadership needs to know in reality who and how many people live in Ksani gorge. As they identify the population number it is obvious that others will not be allowed to enter this territory and Akhalgori will become totally separated from Georgia.

So the programme “Einstein” is launched under the initiative of MES,” announced the Georgian Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkin during the presentation of the program.
