The Turkish Security Council has adopted a new security strategy for the next five years. Analysts are paying particular attention to the fact that countries like Syria, Iran, Bulgaria, Georgia and Armenia are no longer considered an external threat to the country. Russia, meanwhile, had already been removed from the list. This document is giving a new spin to the Turkish position in the region. With post soviet countries, Turkey had always maintained a very controversial attitude because Turkey and the Soviet Union did not enjoy friendly relations. But since the collapse of Soviet Union and emergence of separate states, Turkey started establishing bilateral relations with each of these countries. Recent developments show positive trends in the regional policy of Turkey however relations with Armenia are still unclear despite there being no serious confrontation.
