Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey is currently around USD 2 billion; however there is further trade potential between the states, and both sides have plans to increase the level of annual turnover between the two countries up to USD 5 billion. The countries hope that once the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars Railway is complete and operational, this will help to increase the trade turnover. The Azerbaijani government is paying a lot of attention to the development of the Nakhchevan region of Azerbaijan, the territory of which is disconnected from the Azeri mainland. So, it would like Turkey to further increase assistance to this region of Azerbaijan as well as considering the possible deployment of a Turkish military base on Nakhchevan territory.
