Saakashvili meets Tigipko
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili met Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Sergei Tigipko at Kvareli Lake on November 29, 24 Saati reports. They talked about the reforms carried out for improving the business environment and developing tourism. “Today I opened a public school in a villages where 3000 people live,” Saakashvili said. “During the Rose Revolution 70 percent of this school supported us. Then the people asked us to repair at least a small part of the road. We constructed a Swiss standard road, restored water supply and started supplying the village with gas and now we built a school,” he told the Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister.
Sergei Tigipko arrived in Georgia to participate in a two-day regional economic conference. The Conference was held with the initiative of the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank and the Georgian government.
Czech experts give recommendations to Georgia
Czech experts have given some recommendations to Georgia, 24 Saati reports. According to Sakstat, from November 22 to November 26 as part of the EU programme TAIEX, Czech experts visited the national accounts department of Georgia’s National Statistics Office. The experts met the department’s staff and discussed the problems with Georgia’s national accounts processes and ways of solving them. Special attention was given to regional accounts implementation issues and to the prospects of implementing tourism satellite accounts.
Classes suspended in Akhalgori schools
Due to the cold weather studies were suspended in Akhalgori schools, 24 Saati reports. “Classes have been stopped both in the Georgian and the Russian schools. Children are not able to stay in the classrooms due to the low temperatures, however nobody cares about sorting the heating,” Akhalgori residents reported. According to them the authorities are not going to install wood stoves in the classrooms as they do not want to damage the windows with the smoke pipes.
