Armenian analyst Artak Shakarian thinks that 2011 will be rather slow in respect toTurkish – Armenian relations. Next year there will be elections in Turkey and as Armenian analysts suggest, Yerevan would prefer the ruling party to remain in power there. According to Shakarian whoever is in power in Turkey they will still connect Turkish – Armenian relations to the Karabakh issue. In 2010, the attempts from either of the countries to regulate relations were followed by nationalistic waves in both of them. Shakarian thinks that a special commission comprised of historians should be created to investigate the issue of humanitarian catastrophe, its reasons, and the matter of compensation.
