Georgia’s National Tourism Agency to Participate in Madrid Tourism Exhibition
Georgia’s National Tourism Agency will participate in FI TOUR 2011 in Madrid in January 19-23, 24 Hours reports. According to the Agency, the Exhibition is one of the largest of its kind worldwide with 10 644 participants from 166 countries. The Event is attended by 7532 journalists and, on average, they receive124 700 visitors.
Meetings with UN WTO are scheduled within the frameworks of the Exhibition.
UN WTO Regional Commission meetings and Forum 2012 will be held in Georgia this year. They have last been held in Poland. The activities focus on setting European tourism policy.
“UN WTO considers Georgia to be the best location for “Green Tourism. Restoration and popularization of Silk Road Project has also been planned”, Tourism Agency officials say.
UN WTO Secretary General Talib Rifai’s meeting with the Deputy Head of Georgia’s Tourism Agency Beka Jakeli is scheduled for today within the sidelines of the Exhibition. The meeting will aim at setting goals for 2011 cooperation, supporting the launch of full-scale tourist products and their launch on the international market.
Famous Georgian Singer Awarded With Presidential Order Of Brilliance
A world-famous Georgian opera singer Lamara Chkonia has been awarded with the presidential order, Akhali Taoba reports.
Lamara Chkonia has been awarded with the order for her contribution to the popularization of the world opera art and for fruitful creative activity.
The laureate of numerous international prizes, a leading soprano of Georgian Opera was decorated with the title of People’s Artist of Georgia in 1970 and the title of the People’s Artist of the Soviet Union - in 1976.
Lamara Chkonia’s two daughters, Nato and Eteri Chkonia are also well-known opera singers.
