Recent opinion in Azerbaijan suggests that official Baku should freeze its projects with EU countries if the EU does not confirm its position over Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. This opinion surfaced in Azerbaijan following the visit to Baku of Jose Manuel Barosso, President of the European Commission. Azeri officials claim that they clearly explained to Barosso that all the efforts Baku puts in to facilitating NABUCCO project are based on the principle of territorial integrity in the country. There is no alternative to this approach, believe Azeri officials and analysts, who think that the EU must clearly identify its position on the issue.
