Georgia’s First Deputy Parliamentary Chairman Mikheil Machavariani and Vice-Speaker Gigi Tsereteli continue their visit to the U.S. According to the Parliamentary press service, the MPs met the Head of the National Democratic Institute, Ken Wollack to discuss the ongoing democratic processes in Georgia. The Georgian delegation has familiarised him with the democratic reforms, constitutional reform and media transparency issues, 24 Hours reports.
The parties talked over the current cooperation between Georgia’s Parliament and NDI. They also discussed future prospects of the partnership. Meetings with the heads of the International Republic Institute (IRI) were also held as part of the visit. Meetings with Senators and other Government representatives are also planned.
Mikheil Machavariani and Gigi Tsereteli will also visit California to participate in events commemorating the 100th birthday of President Reagan.
The sitting of the Committee on European Integration
The agreements: "On the common aviation area between Georgia, the EU and its Member States” and the “Between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Republic of Poland for Civil Air Transportation”, submitted by the President of Georgia for ratification were considered at a sitting of the Committee on European Integration on February 4.
The agreements are based on the "open skies” principles, which envisage the creation of a legislative base for direct scheduled flights between Georgia and the EU member states. The activation of the documents will foster the improvement of the quality of flights and freight movement between Georgia and the EU member countries.
Tamar Chelidze, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and Alexandre Gachechildze, the Head of the Transportation-Shipment Department introduced the agreements to members of the Committee.
