Georgia Has Ratified Agreement On Common Airspace With EU

The Parliament Of Georgia ratified an agreement on use of the common airspace with the European Union on February 8. 87 deputies unanimously voted for the ratifying the agreement.
The document’s signing ceremony between Georgia and the EU took place on on December 2 in Brussels. From the Georgian side the document was signed by Minister of Economic and Sustainable Development Vera Kobalia.
According to the minister, the agreement will promote the developement of tourism in the country.
The Georgian Parliament ratified on February 8 a comprehensive air services agreement with EU, designed to integrate Georgia into the European common aviation market.
The agreement, which was signed in December 2010, will remove all restrictions on prices and the number of weekly flights between Georgia and the EU and will enable all EU airlines to operate direct flights to Georgia from anywhere in the EU and vice versa for Georgian carriers.
Georgia will have to harmonize its legislation with European standards and implement EU aviation rules in areas such as aviation safety, security, environment, consumer protection, air traffic management, economic regulation, competition issues and social aspects.
At the moment of signing the agreement, there were direct flights between Georgia and nine EU member states (Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands and Poland).
