Russia hopes to create alternative ways of transporting its oil, bypassing the Bosporus and Dardanelle straits. It plans to transport its oil to the Turkish Black Sea port of Samsun and then further to Ceyhan via a newly constructed pipeline. The beginning of the construction should start later this year, the major stakeholders will be Russian companies and the state of Russia as a whole.
