Currently, the president and his administration are promoting the agricultural sector and labeling it as priority for the country, the opposition however as well as independent analysts immediately remind the officials that for several years agriculture was practically ignored and not financed properly, which has caused many of today's problems. Very little investment was directed towards the agriculture sector. For instance in 2009, the FDI in agriculture was around GEL 22 mln. In the first quarter of 2010 the FDI in agriculture was only GEL 5 mln. GDP from agricultural sector has also decreased dramatically, if in 2009 it was 16% in 2010 it was just over 8%.
